Luxury Veranda Design in Vancouver: Elegance and Resilience

For a private residence on the West Coast, Urban Pot transformed a spacious sunroom into a functional and sophisticated living space capable of withstanding the cold, rainy winters of Vancouver, BC. This project illustrates our ability to create custom furniture that compromises neither aesthetics nor durability.

The challenge: A four-season solution for urban gardening

The owner wanted a winter solution that would maintain a touch of greenery year-round while optimizing the space's ergonomics. The challenge was to protect the plants' root structure from constant moisture and frost, while preserving a clean, minimalist design.

Urban Pot engineering: Raised planters and thermal protection

To meet these needs, we designed a system of raised marine-grade aluminum planters on legs:

• Drainage and air circulation: By raising the planters, we facilitate drainage of rainwater and prevent moisture from accumulating under the containers, protecting the veranda covering.

• The 2-inch fold detail: Each unit features a 2-inch top lip, providing structural rigidity and a robust visual finish that perfectly frames vegetation.

• Root insulation: These custom-made planters act as a thermal shield, protecting the roots from the elements throughout the cold season.

Space optimization: custom-designed outdoor kitchen

To complete this outdoor sanctuary, Urban Pot crafted a custom barbecue cabinet. Designed to seamlessly integrate with the veranda's architecture, this aluminum module maximizes every square foot while offering unparalleled resistance to salt corrosion common in Vancouver's environment.
