For Resilience Montreal's new centre on Atwater Avenue, Urban Pot designed a custom aluminum planter that turns the outdoor terrace into a calm, welcoming garden.
Resilience Montreal is a non-profit day shelter at 780 Atwater Avenue, near Cabot Square. The organization offers warm meals, a place to sleep, clean clothing, and support to anyone in need. Its new permanent wellness centre was designed to give the community it serves a dignified, calming space.
Urban Pot designed and manufactured the custom planter that lines the centre's outdoor terrace. It creates a green space where visitors can rest and recharge.
A One-Piece Aluminum Planter Designed for the Space
Working from the site plans, Urban Pot fabricated a large L-shaped planter that follows the perimeter of the terrace. It measures about 33 ft by 28 ft and features an inner curve that softens the corner of the space.
Durable aluminum: made from 1/8 in. 5052-H32 aluminum, with 1/4 in. legs for a stable base.
Custom curved corner: a wide inner radius creates a smooth transition between the planter's two sections.
Clean finish: invisible welds and a 2 in. x 2 in. lip give it a neat, long-lasting finish.
Built-in drainage: 1/2 in. drainage holes are spaced along the bottom to protect the plantings.
A Living Garden for the Community
Planted with grasses and perennials such as coneflowers, asters, Joe-Pye weed, and yarrow, the planter brings colour to the terrace throughout the season. Its soft green finish matches the terrace railings. Climbing plants on the perforated panels add height and soften the walls.
Tables, chairs, and Adirondack chairs complete the layout, making the terrace a quiet place to rest away from the city's bustle.
