Urban Revitalization: Cégep du Vieux Montréal comes alive with Urban Pot

Located in the heart of the Latin Quarter, Cégep du Vieux Montréal is a vibrant hub where stark architecture meets the energy of Montreal's youth. For this terrace revitalization project, the objective was clear: to break the monotony of the concrete with a dynamic, sustainable, and decidedly modern landscape integration.

The challenge: to combine institutional robustness with a playful aesthetic

In urban school settings, furniture must not only be attractive but also withstand heavy use and the rigors of the Quebec climate. The Cégep wanted a structured layout that would serve both as a delineation of space and as visual meeting points.

A custom palette for a strong identity

The signature of this project lies in its bold use of color. Urban Pot created a set of 17 custom-made planters including:

• 14 rectangular planters to develop guidelines and circulation zones.

• 3 monumental circular planters to break the linearity and bring a touch of softness to the design.

To bring this space to life, a selection of specific RAL colors was applied via powder coating, from pigeon blue (RAL 5014) to signal yellow (RAL 1003), including pure orange (RAL 2000) and reseda green (RAL 6011). This interplay of colors transforms the terrace into a stimulating and inspiring environment for students.

Engineering in the service of sustainability

Behind the bright colors lies high-precision manufacturing:

• Marine Grade Aluminum (1/8"): The choice of aluminum ensures lightweight roof structures and total rust resistance.

• Invisible Weld & Refined Finish: Each joint is carefully ground for a monolithic appearance, characteristic of the Urban Pot standard.

• Intelligent design: The bins are equipped with 4-inch feet with specific internal reinforcements, allowing safe movement with a pallet jack for a flexible layout.
