Fiberglass, also known as glass fiber or glass reinforced plastic, is a composite material made of fine glass fibers and a polymer resin. It's known for its strength, durability, and resistance to heat, chemicals, and water. But here's a fun fact: fiberglass was actually discovered by accident! In the 1930s, a researcher at Owens-Corning was trying to create a new type of insulation using glass fibers and a binder. When the binder failed to stick to the fibers, the researcher was left with a fluffy, cotton candy-like substance that was surprisingly strong and lightweight. And that's how fiberglass was born!
